How to Make Working Out Fun

Hi lovely readers,

I fall in and out of being a fitness enthusiast, but there are so many mental health benefits I’m finding and I’ve been discovering workouts I really enjoy! So lately, I’ve been aiming to workout 5 days a week. I thought I’d share some tips and tricks today that make getting exercise more fun and appealing.

The first tip is to find workout clothes that make you feel cute, and that you’re excited to put on! I also recommend that you put them out the night before and change into them first thing so when you’re potentially dreading getting moving you’re already set to go and it would feel like a waste not to.

The second tip is to mix it up. I used to pretty much strictly do pilates, and while I still sometimes enjoy a pilates class, I like variety. Now I do kickboxing twice a week, I run on the elliptical and do core and glute exercises twice a week, and I do Vinyasa yoga once a week. Sometimes I add in a gym session with a friend. Which brings me to my next tip…

Have a workout buddy! My friend Celyn and I go to the gym occasionally and having someone to talk about life with while I’m sweating it out is hugely helpful. Sometimes I go to workouts with my mom, too, which is super fun.

My next tip is to make playlists! I like to put really amped-up rap on my workout playlists so I feel excited to get moving.

Finally, find what kind of exercise your body needs and you truly enjoy. I’m aiming to lose about 5 pounds and I want definition, so kickboxing is perfect because it’s anaerobic, so it burns calories, and it also adds toning. I do weights after I kickbox so the workout all in all is about 2 hours, but it’s so much fun I don’t mind how long it takes!

Below I’ve included links to two ab and glute workouts I use for after I do the elliptical for 20-30 minutes, depending on my mood. With that being said although I think it’s good to push yourself to exercise, because as humans I think we generally prefer to lounge as opposed to working up a sweat, but be mindful of what your body is telling you. If you’re in a class and you feel like you’ve truly reached your limit, take a pause and recoup. If you feel like you desperately need a day off because you’re really sore, take that day.

Have fun, treat your body with respect, and do what you truly love!

Lots of love, and thanks for stopping by,
