Today I’m going to share a Saturday morning/weekend morning routine. Weekends are the only times I don’t have anything specific scheduled, so I can get things that are personally important to me done and really reflect and relax (well, as much as I can relax – I like to stay busy!).
7:30 am: The first thing I do when I wake up is take my medication. Then I head downstairs and make oatmeal and a cup of coffee. I make sure I drink a full bottle of water before I have my coffee, though, because as we sleep we become dehydrated and this can contribute to fatigue, among other things.
7:45 am: I then check the weather. That day it was going to be 18 degrees, which for Toronto fall is pretty warm! Then I lay out my outfits for the day – I was going to workout so I put on athletic wear and then also lay out a dress for after yoga.
8 am: I go to take a shower. On weekends I like to take a long, relaxing shower in the morning. I use the eos shaving balm, a coconut body wash, Pantene’s charcoal shampoo (really makes your hair feel clean – not great for coloured hair, though), morrocan oil conditioner, and a Vichy foaming face wash.
8:20 am: Then I finish my skincare routine.
I start with this clinique clarifying toner, then I use the Pixi glow mist followed by the Pearlessence radiance perfecting serum, then an Olay eye cream, the Neutrogena Hydroboost moisturizer, and if I haven’t in a few days, I use the La Roche-Posay self-tanner on my face and body. If I’ve just self-tanned I use Philosophy’s firming moisturizer. This routine has been keeping my skin glowing and completely gotten rid of my breakouts!
8:30 am: I then get dressed for my workout.
8:45am: On weekends I do my laundry, including my sheets, so I stripped my bed and gathered my clothes and put in a load.
9am: I was feeling especially motivated this morning, so I then took on the task of cleaning my room top to bottom (organizing my drawers, mopping and sweeping, wiping all the surfaces down). I also put all my summer clothes into the suitcase in my closet and put my fall outfits into drawers and on hangers.
9:30am: Every morning, weekdays included, I journal. I start with a gratitude list, a list of affirmations, then I evaluate my mood and write more specifically about my feelings and my life. I also use my “year of living happily” book and complete a section of that, and then I use my planner and see what’s in store for the next week and add anything I need to.
9:50am: Then I switched my laundry over to the dryer, packed my bag with my dress and all my usual supplies (chapstick, makeup for touch ups, my yoga mat, water bottle, vape, and planner).
10am: Once my things were all prepped, I did my hair and makeup routine.
Lately I’ve just been doing primer, concealer, a BB cream, some powder, bronzer, blush, brows and mascara. Then I use a large barrel curling iron to create some tousled waves.
And that’s a typical morning routine for a weekend for me! There are more things I want to integrate, like meditation (I’m really out of practice and nervous to start doing it again), getting some cardio done (ideally a jog to the park in my neighbourhood), maybe eating a more complete breakfast, and I’d like to eventually start waking up another half an hour earlier.
